Creature sketches commencement post

No. 1 in series of creature requests, genus Pterodactylus, species indefinite.

Suddenly it rained today

Before I fell asleep last night I had a random vision of a drawing of a Parasaurolophus, in great detail, that I'd like to do. That isn't really good because I have commissions to work on... on the other hand it seemed like a good idea so I pushed the Record button and was able to remember it clearly in the morning. Don't know why I have these images of hadrosaurs all the time, first it's Olorotitan....

Since I was gone a long time (moving, other stuff), I'll give you a Touhou Arrange of the day:

TOUHOU HIJACK

Since I'm in a giant slump, I guess it's acceptable to post the last artwork I was able to 'finish' even if it is a fan art for a little contest and gift to a friend.

signed under my silly-art alias

Yuyuko Saigyouji, ghost princess and ruler of the Netherworld. :P 西行 幽時々子 belongs Team Shanghai Alice/ZUN.

Another Touhou Arrange, this time it's metal

Back to more involved link-heavy posts and original art soon.

First of 2011

Sketch of Lucina (my character from the unnamed story) As it turns out, the 2011 rabbit wasn't on purpose, it was just a random quiet forest creature that ended up there.

Lucina and art are (c) me

Songs: Antony , Current 93 , Chrono Cross OST

I hid that trembling light in my young hands

I've traveled this far, wandering the abyss of time

I continued to search for you, though I know not even your name

I wanted to hand over to you just one single feeling

Times catches deep in its arms both love and pain

And erases them, but I remember them

And always will...

It's reverberated deep in my breast for I know not how long..
.

Though it's a whisper fainter than a drop of evening dew

May the prayer I spun towards the darkness of the frozen stars

Reach all the way to your distant sky...

Heavens to Margatroid

I don't feel very well today, but wanted to post something since I've been too busy to do so for a while.

Outing again as a nerd, random sketch I did of Alice Margatroid from Touhou Project, while I was waiting on a job interview. Alice is a youkai magician who primarily uses dolls in her attacks. Her name comes from Miss Murgatroyd of Agatha Christie novels...

Eocornus

preliminary sketch only

Eocornus, the "Dawn Horn"
It's not always possible, but I wanted to try to draw a creature every day, or every other day or so. This is modeled after Hyracotherium (referenced fossil photos, skeletal drawings and various reconstructions as usual)

Guess what, first page of Google search for "Hyracotherium" turns up lies and stupidity. You may also want to try Googling "Tiktaalik": more lying lies and lies all on page 1 of the search.

It scares me, because there are people ignorant enough to think if it's on teh Google, it must be true.

_____

(Please let me repay you!!) Guess who's coming to dinner...Carnegie Giganotosaurus and Papo Allosaurus,

(Also Included: Teh Rei)

Before anyone else asks,

...no, I've never done 'shrooms.

I'm probably outing myself a little much since this is fan art, but the subject matter is good opportunity to make myself use a bunch of obnoxious colors and still try to make it tolerable. Well, I have no idea how someone else would see it but the colors manage not to make my eyes bleed somehow so I feel successful in that.

Practice with pigment liner and copic markers on bristol, for a change.

Before you ask the other question, no I'm not ashamed. Marisa (the witch) is the most adorable little character in the history of ever and I want her image stuck all over my trapper keeper. Shut up that's why. (It's weird, trying to write as if people who don't already know me are reading this.)

I should note here that Alice, Marisa and Shanghai-doll belong to the one-man Team Shanghai Alice(aka ZUN) and not to me. But if you look even slightly into the Touhou fandom you'd be surprised it wasn't some massive public hallucination that gave birth to these characters... I was, since the creator has no problem with the billions of fan works dedicated to it

Building a desmostylian.

UCMP short description
Something a little more entertaining
This is Desumon, a cartoon desmostylian that was created by a natural history museum in Japan to help introduce the Desmostylia to the public. Desmostylians are very popular in Japan, which is just another sign of their cultural advancement, in my opinion. I mean, there has to be a correlation between the quality of their science and math education and the preponderance of desmostylians in popular culture.

Check out a skeleton, their limb bones are absolutely grotesque. Aww, so ugly it's cute. I'll save the ranting about how little literature on paleo mammals seems to be accessible to the general public (I have god knows how many dinosaur books, but for mammals there is very little to choose from.) I know lots of people think mammals are super boring, but I love them even though they don't make much sense. Litoptern wha?

Expecting to make it fancier soon.

From the sketchbook

Something I did a few days ago, and something else I did today while at the usual coffee shop:

The phoenix-like thing is based upon Epidexipteryx http://scienceblogs.com/tetrapodzoology/2008/10/epidexipteryx_at_last.php , although you may not be able to tell. About 3/4 of the way through coloring it, I remembered why i hate using colored pencils on this sort of paper, and gave up. Better line drawing is needed for the future since I kind of like the idea.

Tiktaalik is based upon... Tiktaalik. http://tiktaalik.uchicago.edu/ Surprise!
